As a knitter there are so many things that make the process of knitting worth doing. The excitement of choosing a new pattern. Finding just the right yarn. Locating the ever elusive needles, in the right sizes. Choosing a comfy seat in which to cast on and begin. The meditative quality of stitch after stitch giving time to sit, reflect, and figure out life. Then, the final item wrapped around my children as they head out the door into the world. It warms my heart.
Another great reason to knit is finding the most amazing friends who knit or crochet as well. This means weekly knitting groups and time to chat while creating. Lattes and the click-clack-click of needles. Someone to talk to about gauge, the perfect needle size, and the best yarn. Someone who won't think you are crazy to be talking about gauge, the perfect needle size, and the best yarn.
This post today is about these great women in my life. To honor them as mothers, friends, and creative beings.
These beautiful women, my friends, surprised me with some amazing creations after our girl was born. Surprised because I know what they are knitting. I see their projects. To keep these secret and work on them and get them done was quite a feat. It meant many late nights. Many small stitches with fingering weight yarn. And, even an episode with a finished item, a dog, and crocheting it all over again. That is real love, I say.
I feel so blessed. These are lovely wool pieces to wrap my daughter in. Pieces full of love. How lucky I feel and I'm not even the one wearing them.
So to my fabulous friends, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! You are incredible. I love you. You are all Great friends, Great women and Great creators of beauty.
To all the fabulous women out there that create and weave love into all the things you do, I thank you. The world, I'm sure, could be healed if there were more handmade gifts woven with love.
Should we try?
