We blessed her. We thanked her. We brought her home.
One of the things I love the most about finding our tree out in the wilderness is time as a family. The hike up into the forest with the sounds of birds, the wind through the trees, and on one occasion the utter silence of snow falling. It is an adventure every time. Especially this year with baby in the moby and me tripping over tree roots.
This year the big daddy found "our" tree. A lovely, slightly scrawny, maybe "a-bit-bare-on-one-side" tree. We are quite happy with how she looks in our home.
We also love that this is an area that the forest rangers clear for fires so the trees can find new homes at least for a while. They are so green that we can put candles on the tree without being concerned.
In fact one year, yes I'm freely admitting this, we lit candles on the tree in uhh-hmm, February. It was that green. I just didn't have the heart to move it until it finally stopped drinking water. By the way it looked fabulous with red hearts dangling off of it.
Our tree is now nestled in our home. It has been stared at, decorated, sung to, and our wee one fell asleep underneath it. Yup, that sounds just about right.
Do you have merriment happening in your home?
